If you are on the market to buy your own health insurance can be your valuable time and money by shopping and comparing policies right online. Pages that you used for various types of insurance make it very easy for you to be a picture of what your coverage and costs will be. But, be forewarned that in some cases with an insurance broker as I discovered within the past year.

As a self-employed person, my own health and life insurance for my family. With the move from New Jersey to North Carolina in 2004 I knew two things about our health insurance:

1. I would go shopping for health insurance, North Carolina.

2. Prices would be cheaper than in New Jersey, which cost about half of what I had paid, and with slight better coverage.

A few weeks before we are in contact I known internet insurance broker and received bids. We have for you and received the paperwork from the broker about ten days before the parade. Honestly, I wish I had the process a little earlier than all of our free time was the preparation and movement. So, I ended up packing the paperwork with my personal stuff and was only able to complete it and submit it to a week after our arrival in North Carolina.

Dealing with the online insurance broker was a simple task, but I soon discovered that it is an additional step in the application process, which only slows down our consent.

When the papers was by the broker, they acknowledged the same via e-mail and announced that our package before forwarding it to the sickness fund.

Over the next few weeks we received messages from the insurance broker as follows:

1. We are in the process of reviewing your application.

2. We have received your request to the insurance companies.

3. The insurance has your application and will review in about a week.

4. The insurance expects a delay in reviewing your application by the high volume of applications received.

5. Please do not contact the insurance directly, we will keep you informed about the status of your application. Yeah, right.

Originally, we were by the insurance broker that the health insurance verification and approval of the application within two weeks. Follow-up calls from us to the broker along with several exchanges of emails revealed that this did not happen. In addition, if we are to the health insurance company directly - in the promotion of the broker - the health insurance company had difficulty finding the application. Within a few days the application was found sitting in another department, our contact at the fault of the insurance broker for the transmission of information to the wrong address.

As it turned out, the original insurance quote online, we saw little more than 20%. Once the health insurance company found that some pre-existing conditions are taken into account in order to increase our prices accordingly. Of course, when working with the internet broker we knew that the sentence quoted was not "absolutely", but the big jump still a bitter pill to swallow.

Our thoughts on that in this process were:

1. Had we known before the time that our "final rate" would be so high, we have bought some more.

2. Because of the delays and the time we needed to run the application as our coverage with the NJ health provider would have to be canceled, possibly by the end of the year.

By mid-December, one of the ten weeks after we submitted our papers, we received official notification that our application has been approved and that we were. In the last few weeks of the lengthy application process that we have with the insurance company directly several times to know what the status of the application was filed. At no time during the process, we were that we have received authorization, basically we were told that would begin pending approval.

Finally, I would like to offer you the following recommendations for shopping for health insurance:

1. Comparison shop online. Get quotes on-line broker, a general idea of what your costs will be. If you already have existing conditions, the prices are not included in your listing.

2. Narrow down the list of companies quoted on three and then contact them directly. Bypass the broker as they are an unnecessary additional step in what is certainly not a quick approval.

3. If you have insurance from a particular date, apply well in advance to allow for delays, for misplaced paperwork, changes in the application, etc. Our insurance coverage was effective a specific date, but we were able to make them at another time, with the surrender NJ to our providers.

In all, the experience was wearisome at times and a real eye-opener. I know all the ads for the online insurance quotes. I am not saying that to the pages, but please, what we went through before using an online broker exclusively.
